In my work I look for a juxtaposition of wonderment and alienation. On the one hand I use my work to marvel at the beauty of the world, and the experience of beauty itself. I explore everything from light and color, to texture and reflection. I take joy in this, and I take that joy very seriously. A work only qualifies for presentation if I’ve experienced some excitement of discovery. On the other hand, I’m also interested in the sense of estrangement that arises when something interrupts the experience of beauty. One color or unexpected placement can interrupt an otherwise harmonious experience. The work then comes to life, because it the clash between harmony and dissent forces it to keep twisting and turning to try to resolve itself.
